A change of venue led to a successful summer fair for one village school.

Bredgar primary usually holds it on the playing field but this year the PTA decided to move it to the cricket grounds in Gore Road - and it seems the decision proved to be the right one.

It’s estimated about 200 people, if not more, were in attendance and it wasn’t just staff, parents and pupils but villagers too who wanted to join in with the fun.

A 1978 Lotus Esprit S2 and a Rolls Royce were among the cars on display as well as steam engines.

There was a bouncy castle, a gymnastic performance and karate demonstration, live music by Four World Collide and harmonies sung by members of the Bredgar Detts.

Other attractions included a coconut shy, tug-of war competition, hoopla, skittles, face painting, stalls selling various arts and crafts and shabby chic items plus a barbecue, beer tent and gladiator arena.

It’s not known how much was raised but all proceeds will go towards the cost of a new mini-bus which will take pupils to and from swimming lessons and on day trips in and around Sittingbourne. So far £7,000 has been raised towards the £11,000 price tag.

PTA chairman Lucy Louden said: “I’ve had nothing but positive comments about it and there was definitely more people there than normal.

“We wanted to make it a community event and it proved to be a great success.”
