A 20-year-old temporary postal worker is due to appear before magistrates at Sittingbourne on Monday charged with stealing mail after a sack of post was found abandoned in an alleyway.

James Sillifant, from Meyrick Road, Sheerness, was arrested after letters were discovered dumped off Oak Road, Murston, near Sittingbourne, in May.

Police have charged Mr Sillifant with four counts of theft of mail and one count of theft by an employee.
