Kent Police Swale officers deliver baby after shift

A busy night shift came to an unusual end when police officers helped to deliver a baby at the front entrance to a hospital.

Kent Police Swale tweeted on Thursday morning to explain how two officers were awaiting treatment for a suspect who had become violent, when they sprung into action to aid a woman giving birth.

They said: "#LPT3 signing off after a busy night shift, with one call where several officers injured detaining a violent male after an incident.

"Whilst at hospital however with the male awaiting treatment two officers have assisted staff deliver a baby at the front door."

A police spokesman said: "It was at Medway Hospital around 2.30am. Officers assisted doctors by providing light and passing towels."

The man originally detained was later released pending further investigations.
