A paedophile has been sentenced to 15 months behind bars for making and possessing indecent images of children.

Kim Wildey, 55, from Sittingbourne, pleaded guilty to four charges of making indecent images and 16 charges for possessing indecent images.

Officers from Kent Police's public protection crime unit executed a search warrant at his then home address on December 19, 2008. Computers and digital media were seized and Wildey was arrested that day.

Extensive digital forensic investigations uncovered 99 images and 54 movie clips of indecent images of children ranging from levels one to five - five being the most serious.

Upon sentencing his honour Judge Patience said: 'You are a worrying case because you seem not to appreciate entirely just how grave these offences are. I have read in your pre-sentence report that in interview, you said "I'm not the only one in the world doing it."

"As I speak, somewhere on this planet, someone is doing wicked things to terrified children. Children are damaged because people like you gain gratification from looking at such material."

Wildey, who was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court earlier today, must also remain on the sex offenders register for 10 years.

Det Supt Paul Fotheringham said: "Kent Police remains determined to seek out those individuals who abuse children and are engaged in child abuse image offences. We are committed to identifying offenders and bringing them before the courts.

"There is no excuse for viewing, downloading or searching for images of children suffering abuse. These are images of real children where a child is suffering real abuse and we will continue to work, together with partner agencies, including CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre), to stop this horrific crime."
