“We greatly value their loyalty and support and hope they will continue to shop with us at our nearby stores in Maidstone and Canterbury and via our website.

“Our Sittingbourne store is part of a larger transformation plan for our business to reconfigure our store estate and provide a truly omnichannel shopping experience for our customers.”

She said an “omnichannel shopping experience” included staff using iPads to make shoppers aware of products not necessarily available in store.

Nationwide, the company has been going through changes since 2014.

It has closed a number of stores, refurbished others and pushed its online sales.

In November, it announced pre-tax losses of £800,000 between February and October.
