M2 slip-road and A249 scheduled for further closers as Stockbury flyover project work continues

More closures of the M2 slip-road and A249 have been announced as work continues on the multi-million pound Stockbury flyover project.

Oad Street, which was last closed at the end of March, will be fully closed between Pett Lane and the A249 and the London-bound exit on to M2 junction 5 will also be closed overnight on Wednesday.

When the road reopens on Thursday, Maidstone-bound traffic leaving the Stockbury roundabout on the A249 will now have to use the new Oad Street link.

Motorists have been told to "just follow the signs".

From 9pm tonight until 5am tomorrow the A249 Sheppey-bound between the M20 junction 7 and Stockbury roundabout will also be closed overnight while a new temporary barrier is installed.

Then, from 9pm on Wednesday, April 12, until 5am on Thursday, April 13, the A249 Maidstone-bound, between Stockbury roundabout and M20 junction 7, will be closed overnight while National Highways are carrying out line painting and moving traffic to a new link road.

A different part of the road, both Sheppey and Maidstone-bound between Bobbing and the Stockbury roundabout, is also shut from 8pm tomorrow until 5am on Thursday, April 13.

There will also be a closure from 8pm on Thursday, April 13, until 5am on Friday, April 14.

National Highways confirmed a lane will remain open while this takes place.

The closures come after Nation Highways cancelled weekend works at the beginning of the month due to bad weather.

A spokesman said: "Work is progressing well and we’re now preparing to move southbound traffic onto the new Oad Street link road while we carry out work on the A249 carriageway."
