Drivers want compensation for M2 pothole

Drivers say they have been left with huge repair bills after falling victim to the M2 pothole.

We reported on Saturday how motorists had been left with damaged vehicles after hitting the pothole between junctions 5 and 6.

One lane of the M2 was cordoned off for repairs to take place, but not before many people said their cars had been damaged.

There was a huge response to the story on our Facebook page with many drivers saying they had been left with hefty repair bills.

SamanthaOliver Curtis posted: "Three hours we have been sitting waiting for recovery. The police have NOT even made an appearance. Kent Highways have coned off the inside lane. We are one of 16 cars that all hit the same pothole which was filled 48 hours ago. It’s a disgrace.

"The pothole has damaged my wheel and we’re not sure if its messed and damaged anything else."

Another poster, who said she worked for a recovery firm, added: "I have literally finished a 12 hour shift where the last three hours have had nothing but punctures caused by this pothole. Our recovery drivers and roadside techs have worked their absolute socks off to get everyone they can back on the road."

Kent Highways, operated by Kent County Council, has reminded motorists that the motorway is the responsibility of Highways England and that the local authority has no responsibility for its maintenance or compensation claims.

Another driver, Connor Morrison, said: "I went over this today around 2pm and ruined my front shocks and springs, gotta find a grand to buy new ones."

If your vehicle has been damaged, you may be able to claim compensation. You will need to contact Highways England to report the damage. Call 0300 123 5000 or email info@highwaysengland.co.uk. Further information about the claim process is available here.
