POLICE were called to reports of a man with a gun holding people hostage at a Kent hostel last night.

Officers went to the scene at The Quays, Crown Quay Lane, Sittingbourne, just after 10.40pm.

The area, including surrounding roads, was sealed off.

A 30-year-old man was arrested at 6.30am this morning on suspicion of firearms offences and false imprisonment. He is currently in police custody.

Nobody was injured during the incident and the weapon used has been identified by police as an imitation firearm.
