Sittingbourne boss Gary Abbott wants to finish as the top Kent side in Ryman League, Division 1 South even if they miss the race for a play-off place.

The Brickies have fallen behind rivals Faversham after three games without a win but Abbott wants his players to regroup and overhaul the Lilywhites.

He said: "We’ve finished as the top Kent club every year I’ve been here and I want to do it again. We all want to make the play-offs but with what’s happened off the field, we have got to be a bit realistic. It is going to be hard.

The sides played out a 1-1 draw at Bourne Park on Tuesday, with the Brickies being grateful for a stoppage-time equaliser from Dartford Academy youngster Connor Heffernan.

Abbott was pleased with his side’s response to Saturday’s disappointing 4-0 defeat at home to Worthing, and hopes his players can take the improvements into tomorrow’s (Saturday) trip to Whitehawk.

Abbott said: "We went back to doing the basics right."
