Gary Abbott looking for Sittingbourne to keep pace at the top of the Ryman League Division 1 South

Sittingbourne boss Gary Abbott says he can’t wait for his side’s "biggest game of the season so far" when they host Burgess Hill at Bourne Park on Saturday.

Bourne lie sixth, below Burgess Hill only on goal difference, after back-to-back league victories over Whitstable and Whyteleafe.

Abbott (pictured) said his squad were fully fit and raring to go ahead of the game, adding: "We need the three points. If we can get a win and then follow it up with three points against Chipstead next week, then we’ll be right up there and a gap will be opening up."

Victory on Saturday could see Bourne go third, with Abbott relishing being chased by teams rather than chasing.

He said: "We’re usually the ones in seventh, eighth or ninth so it is nice to be up there with teams looking to catch us. It is a good feeling.

"This is a massive game for us if we want to keep in there. I’m quietly confident we can get a result. We are a young team but when we play the way we want to we are a top side."

Two first-half goals saw Bourne beaten 2-0 at home by Tooting in the Championship Manager Cup third round on Tuesday but Abbott admitted he was not unhappy to have been knocked out, adding: "The league is the only thing we’re worried about."
