Armed police stop car in Sittingbourne in connection with aggravated burglary in Ashford

Armed police surrounded a vehicle and arrested four men after an aggravated burglary at a property.

The firearms officers swooped in Swanstree Avenue, Sittingbourne, 40 minutes after being alerted to reports of a raid in Jack Dunbar Avenue, Ashford.

Locals reported seeing as many as six police cars – two of which were undercover vehicles – at the scene after the men were stopped in the early hours of Saturday.

A video shows officers searching a white car which has been blocked in by police.

In a statement, Kent Police said: “Kent Police was called at 11.42pm on Friday to a report of an aggravated burglary at a property in Jack Dunbar Avenue, Ashford.

“Following this call officers, including firearms officers, stopped a vehicle at around 12.23am in Swanstree Avenue, Sittingbourne, where four people were arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

“They remain in custody while enquiries are ongoing.”

An aggravated burglary is where the person committing the crime has “any firearm or imitation firearm, any weapon of offence, or any explosive” with them at the time.
