Fear of gas cylinders exploding at blaze scene

POLICE and fire chiefs are investigating the cause of a blaze at properties in Grovehurst Road, Kemsley, near Sittingbourne.

It is believed the fire started in a storage shed at around 5.30pm onm Monday. The fire then spread to two acetylene gas cylinders.

Grovehurst Road, at the junction of Newman Drive and North Street, was closed and three properties in the immediate area were evacuated.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "There have been no injuries in connection with the incident."

Fire crews worked throughout the night to cool the cylinders.
