Fancy taking part in a charity walk?

Two friends are urging as many people as possible to join them on a 10-mile walk to help raise money for a boy who suffers from a rare illness.

Becky Glass and Sam Martin will meet at The Grove in Sittingbourne, at 9.30am on Saturday morning (May 1) before setting off at 10am for the Tesco store, Faversham.

The women will be rattling a bucket along the way to help raise funds for seven-year-old Mikey Hines who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma - a type of cancer, three years ago.

The youngster, who moved from Sittingbourne to Canterbury five years ago, went into remission last year but scans in February showed the tumour had returned.

There is a treatment, but it is only available in the USA, and his family needs to raise £250,000 to pay for it.

Mrs Glass, 32, from Dully, is friends with Mikey’s aunt Gemma Cullen, and Miss Martin, 39, from Sittingbourne, looked after him when he attended Homewood Day Care Nursery, in Johnson Road, Sittingbourne.

Mrs Glass said: "So far we’ve managed to raise about £600 in sponsorship money between us but we’re hoping to raise more.

"We’ll be dressed up in 80’s fancy dress and hopefully they’ll be some others who will join in with us on the day."
