Sittingbourne High Street and Retail Park issued with dispersal order for a second weekend

More anti-social behaviour has forced police to issue a dispersal order in a town centre for a second weekend.

Covering Sittingbourne High Street and the town’s retail park the order will be in place for three days.

It began at 6pm last night and will run until the same time on Sunday evening.

The order has been put in place to ensure any anti-social behaviour is dealt with quickly and effectively by police.

Inspector Vanessa Foster, from Swale’s Community Safety Unit, said: "Residents and business owners are continuing to raise concerns about nuisance behaviour in the area, including the reckless use of bikes and e-scooters.

"We are determined to respond to these concerns and Sittingbourne will see additional patrols this weekend.

"The dispersal order gives our officers additional powers to move on anyone causing a nuisance and, if necessary, arrest those who return to the area once dispersed.

"Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and those responsible will be held to account."

Last week, a similar order was implemented in the same areas following further disorderly behaviour.

An order was also put in place in Sittingbourne and Sheppey between May 19 and May 21 to tackle boy racers after a rise in reports of dangerous driving and nuisance vehicles.

Anybody who wishes to report instances of anti-social behaviour should report it online, via the Kent Police website. If a crime is in progress call 999.
