Desert horse ride for charity

By Hayley Robinson

A woman is using her passion for horse riding to raise money for a good cause.

Dorothy Saffrey signed up to take part in the Petra horse riding challenge in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The 49-year-old, of Conyer Road, Teynham, will be joined by her friend Katie Wilkinson, from Peterborough, when she flies out to Jordan on April 9 to take part in the event.

The pair, who need to raise a minimum of £3,000 each, will spend seven days exploring desert landscapes, unspoiled wilderness and archaeological treasures of Jordan and discovering the ancient city of Petra on the final leg of their journey.

The ride will also be in memory of Mrs Wilkinson’s husband Richard, who died from a brain tumour.

Mrs Saffrey said: "I’ve been horse riding all my life and Katie is an experienced horse rider too. So far I have raised £2,000 thanks to sponsorship from friends and family and money raised from a curry night at The Prince of India in Faversham.

"I’m definitely looking forward to it."
