Starbucks window smashed after fight in Sittingbourne High Street

A man has been arrested after a town centre brawl resulted in a Starbucks shop window being smashed.

Officers were called to Sittingbourne High Street at around 1.50am this morning to reports of a fight involving up to 10 men.

During the incident the front of Starbucks was smashed and 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. He has been bailed until June 14.

Police are still investigating the incident.

No serious injuries were reported as a result of the brawl.

It came as a Section 34 dispersal order is in place across Sittingbourne town centre over the weekend to give officers extra powers to deal with those causing crime and anti-social behaviour.

Those who fail to leave when required by police face arrest.

It is the second time in just two weeks such an order has been put in place.

Previously the force said it was following an increase in thefts, vehicle crimes and anti-social behaviour.

At the end of February an increase in reports of "dangerous driving" also resulted in a dispersal order being put in place across Swale.

There was also a CCTV crackdown at the town's Morrisons after staff and customers have reportedly been targeted by the gang of youths.

As part of the order, across the weekend patrolling officers will be seen in public spaces throughout the town and its retail parks to deter crimes.
