Claims of conversion after Hague's visit

By Hayley Robinson

Shadow Foreign Secretary William Hague was in Sittingbourne Town Centre yesterday (Wednesday) as part of a tour through Kent.

The Conservatives parliamentary candidate Gordon Henderson, who is fighting for the Sittingbourne and Sheppey seat, accompanied Mr Hague to meet shoppers.

Mr Henderson said: "Lots of people turned up to meet Mr Hague. He had one to one conversations with people about their concerns. There were questions about our policies on tax credits and the benefit system and how it could be changed to encourage people to work rather than claim benefits.

"One woman who was a Liberal Democrat supporter said she is now going to vote Conservative so it was a useful exercise.

"I’m pleased that such a high profile member of the shadow cabinet came to the constituency. It shows how important the Sittingbourne and Sheppey seat is in the general election."
