England World Cup games screened at Sittingbourne's Holy Trinity Church

A church is offering free viewings of World Cup matches for fans praying divine intervention will bring football home.

Holy Trinity Sittingbourne will show the games on a big screen for viewers to enjoy.

Rev Chris Penfold, associate minister at the church in Church Street, said: "We want to provide some time and space in a warm place for people during these cold days.

"We offer a place where people, of different ages, from different minorities and outlooks can come together in a safe environment to enjoy the World Cup.

"We are showing community World Cup events for free to bring people together and support them.

"All our games will be shown on a big screen and refreshments will be available."

The church is showing various matches free of charge featuring different countries including all of England's crucial group clashes.

The first of the matches will be shown tomorrow at 1pm, kicking off with England vs Iran. This will be followed by USA vs Wales at 7pm.

Other matches shown will include:

  • Morocco vs Croatia – Wednesday, November 23 at 10am
  • Qatar vs Senegal – Friday, November 25 at 1pm
  • England vs USA – Friday, November 25 at 7pm
  • Wales vs England – Tuesday, November 29 at 7pm

The church is one of many venues across Kent displaying the World Cup matches.

Visitors are reminded it is an alcohol free, smoking free and family friendly event. Under 12s must be accompanied by an adult.

There will also be a "World Cup Café" with soft drinks, hot drinks and snacks available.

Entry to watch the games is free.
