People are being warned to be vigilant when using cashpoints after two skimming devices were reported in Sittingbourne.

The machines capture card details and pin numbers, which can then be used on duplicate cards to withdraw cash fraudulently.

The devices were spotted at cashpoints in The Parade and at Church Road, Murston, and reported to the police.

Police described one of the devices used as 'very basic'.

Insp Phil Hibben, of the Swale neighbourhood policing team, said: "I would encourage anyone who sees a suspicious device on a cash machine to notify the bank and to contact us immediately.

"In both cases, members of the public spotted these devices and immediately made us aware and I applaud their vigilance."

Police are advising people to examine the card insert slot on machines to check a false front has not been added; to beware of distractions when using cashpoints and to ensure their pin number is hidden from others.
