The name the reindeer competition which was due to take place at The BarnYard, in Oak Lane, Upchurch, tomorrow (Saturday) has been postponed.

It is hoped the event will take place next Saturday (December 11) - weather permitting.

Youngsters who turn up on the day will be asked to put their thinking caps on and come up with a name for two female reindeers which arrived at The BarnYard two weeks ago but are yet to be named.

Children up the age of 12 can enter the competition for the chance to win a child friendly hamper.

Entries will need to be placed in the KM post box which will be on the KM promotion unit next to the reindeer pen from 11am to 4pm.

The names don't have to be Christmas related as the animals will be at the farm all year round along with their fellow reindeer friends Jupiter and Star who arrived at the end of September.

The winners will be announced on kmfm and in the Medway Messenger the following Friday.

As well as naming the reindeer there will also be a chance for the children to have their photo taken with them in their new pen.

The photos - which will be presented in a frame and available to take home on the day - cost £10 each or three for £25.

Santa will also be there waiting to hear from the little ones what their Christmas wishes are. The cost to see Santa is £4.95 per child which includes a gift.

But it's not all about the kids. Mums and dads can also pick up last minute Christmas presents from the gift shop, get their groceries from the farm shop or buy items such as jams, nuts and cakes which are currently on sale in the Christmas marquee.

General manager Santosh Mal (all correct) said: "We've not done anything like this before so we're hoping it will attract a lot of people.

"It will be nice to have names for the two new reindeers. We think they may already be expecting so hopefully we'll have two new reindeers to name next year."

As the event is weather dependent visitors are advised to contact The BarnYard on the day to make sure the event is running by calling 01634 235059.
