Big freeze fails to deter anglers

Last weekend's cold weather failed to deter 26 anglers from EC10 Angling Club competing for top placings at the Stones Fishery.

With the water temperature dropping well below freezing over the past week, all of the lakes have been frozen over and expectations for a good catch day were low.

Many anglers knew that they would have to use all of their angling knowledge to tempt a fish to the hook.

The match lake once again proved beyond any doubt that there are no favoured pegs because the individual winner came from a peg number which hadn’t yielded a reasonable result over the last month.

Top rod on the day was Richard Wallis with a winning weight of 38lb.

Mick Green took second with 25lb 7oz while Ross Baker finished third with a weight of 22lb 1oz.

While this competition was taking place, local angler Tim Farley landed an impressive catch of 40lb 10oz.
