A charity has given equipment to help a group’s lifesaving training.

The Dannyboy Trust presented the donation to the Sheerness Swimming Club and Lifeguard Corps at its last meeting.

The trust was set up in memory of Warden Bay soldier Daniel Holkham, who died while on duty in Afghanistan in 2010, and aims to support groups and clubs in Sheppey.

The equipment donated to the lifeguard section of the club included throwing ropes, rescue torpedo buoys, resuscitation mannequins and a body board.

Club chairman Phil Crowder said: “We would like to say a big thank you to The Dannyboy Trust for giving us this equipment.

“It will help us teach lifesaving skills to the youngsters of the club and will go a long way in helping to develop the lifesaving section.

“It’s a great help to us.”

Mr Crowder said the donation also means the club should be able to start offering life-saving courses to the community.
