Residents at a care home can video chat with their relatives thanks to a new tablet computer.

Barton Court, in New Road, Minster, which caters for dementia sufferers and the elderly, bought the Samsung Galaxy using part of £513 raised during a pig-racing night at Minster Working Men’s Club in September.

Event coordinator Elaine Bashford said: “It has been really good helping them to keep in touch with their families on Skype and using it for reminiscences and games and all sorts.”

She thanked the various charitable organisations that helped to raise £350 for the device. Some of the left-over cash will go towards a planned music centre.

The next fundraiser will be a beer and brains evening at Barton Court on December 6 at 7.30pm. Entry is £5 per person, with tables of six. To book, call 01795 875394.
