Both Sheppey's bridges have been reopened.

Kent Police opened the Sheppey Crossing at about 2.30pm today (Thursday) and the Kingsferry Bridge was reopened earlier this morning.

Police say both roads are passable with extreme care, but are advising motorists not to travel.

Earlier, the Island was cut-off from the mainland after snow closed both bridges.

Around five inches has settled on parts of Sheppey after a heavy snowfall overnight and the snow has continued to fall and settle throughout the day.

More than 300 schools around the county were shut, including all primary schools on the Island.

Both sites of the Isle of Sheppey Academy didn't opened and many of the nurseries, day centres and playgroups were also closed.

Commuters were stranded as there was no train service running from Sheerness.

The Met Office has said temperatures will be staying below zero.
