MEMBERS of the Sheerness Royal British Legion joined the Mayor of Swale, Cllr Mick Constable, and his wife Jackie to lay wreaths in memory of the servicemen who died in the war against Iraq.

The Rev John Streeting, Vicar of Sheerness, led the commemorative service at the Centopath in Bridge Road, Sheerness.

He led prayers for the 34 British servicemen who died and Mike Sanger, secretary of Sheerness RBL, read out their names before a small crowd of people, including the Sea Cadets.

RBL chairman Tom Redman described the mood as sombre but said it was important for the group to pay its respects to the dead.
