DETECTIVES are continuing to search for a man they wish to question in connection with the fatal stabbing of a young black man.

The victim, 18-year-old Christopher Alaneme, died following the incident in High Street, Sheerness, on Friday, April 21.

Police have named the man they want to speak to as 29-year-old Peter Connolly, from the Commercial Way area of Peckham in south London.

They also want to talk to him about the stabbing of a white man during the same incident.

Four arrests have so far been made following the tragedy. Three men are in custody and one man has been bailed.

Detectives are treating the stabbing of Christopher Alaneme as a racist incident and officers are looking for evidence of racial motivation.

The dead teenager, also known as Christian Roberts, or Chris to his friends, was found stabbed after police were called to a disturbance in the High Street, near to its junction with Bridge Road, at about 11.55pm on Friday.

Officers also found a 29-year-old white man who had been stabbed. His condition in hospital remains stable. He was attacked before Christopher.

Kent’s Chief Constable Mike Fuller has visited the scene of the crime with Mid Kent’s Deputy Area Commander, Superintendent Steve Corbishley.

Mr Fuller said: “Kent Police treats all race and hate crime extremely seriously and we are confident we will catch the people who are responsible for these stabbings.”

Dozens of floral tributes have been left at the scene near the entrance to Beachfields Park, off Bridge Road, and friends are planning a memorial service.
