The person was found under the cliffs.

Medics assessed them before deciding to airlift the casualty to hospital.

A search and rescue team was also airlifted back to The Leas due to the incoming tide.

The Sheppey Coastguard team was stood down at 4.30am.

Emergency services were called to a similar report of a woman in the sea, in the same area on Monday when a patient was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital with a leg injury.

Yesterday had been a busy day for the Sheerness RNLI volunteer crew.

Earlier they were sent on a search at 8.50pm for a 25ft boat which had been due to arrive at Queenborough Harbour in the afternoon.

They spotted the vessel in the river near Gillingham, made sure it was secured to a mooring before taking the man onboard to shore.
