Sheerness Golf Club began their centenary celebrations on New Year’s Day with the unveiling of the new captains.

Ian Milne drove the opening shot as he marked the start of his reign as club captain.

Milne said: “It’s a great honour to be captain in our centenary year, especially as my family have a long connection with the club. My mother was captain of the ladies’ section in 1962, and my father was men’s captain in 1962.”

This year’s lady captain is Gillian Matthews, the senior captain is Denis Taylor, and the junior captain is Toby Simmance.

The celebrations were preceded by the Boxing Day 9-hole event which was won by Brian Mills. Simmance finished in second.
