These pictures are proof that things are really starting to take shape at the Isle of Sheppey Academy.

Construction firm Kier began work at both the east and west sites in Minster and Sheerness back in May and these images taken by Times Guardian photographer Andy Payton show how much it’s progressed.

The shots were taken at the east site in Minster Road, Minster, last Thursday and show just how busy the workmen are.

The huge steel structure visible now will eventually become the academy’s state-of-the-art sports facilities, which will include dance studios, badminton courts and a gym.

Round the other side, close to the current entrance of the school, is where the reception, main admin offices and cafe will be built.

Once the buildings are completed, which it is hoped will be February 2013, all the existing ones will be demolished.

Where they stood, landscaping and a cricket pitch for the community to use will be created.
