A 14-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with an attack on a coach carrying a group of Hasidic Jewish boys in Sheerness.

Witnesses saw a group of about seven teenage boys and girls hurl a glass bottle and stones at the vehicle in Sheerness High Street on Tuesday, July 23.

They also were heard shouting: “Go back to where you came from”.

Police are still looking for other suspects.

The boy was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, but not hate crime, and has been released on bail until October 14.

A window was smashed and the victims were later harassed twice more in Trinity Road car park and at Sheerness beach.

MP Gordon Henderson has written to Up ‘N Away, the charity that organised the coach trip, apologising on behalf of his constituents.

He said: “I think it is an absolutely despicable act by a group of morons who simply do not represent the majority of people on the Island.”

He said he wrote the letter to say, “that they can visit us at any time and they are always welcome, whatever their race or religion. We do not discriminate”.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
