Lantern tribute to tragic Carl

Friends of former teacher Carl Davies came together last night to remember the murdered 33-year-old.

More than 100 people watched and took part in a lantern ceremony at Minster beach in memory of the ex-Royal Marine who died on November 9.

The Iraq veteran was attacked on the Indian Ocean island of Reunion after going out for an evening.

He had been working as a security contractor onboard the ship Atlantic Trader - the region is plagued by piracy.

Tributes continue to be paid to the former Isle of Sheppey Academy and Sittingbourne Community College teacher.

The Facebook group ‘R.I.P Carl Davies’ has passed the 1,200-member mark with many messages from Mr Davies’s friends, family and former pupils.

One message reads: "Our thoughts, love and respect are with you. You made a difference in people's lives because you gave them time and respect.

"Not many people stop and ask how you are and actually care, but you always did! You will be missed and remembered by so many. Rest in peace."

Another tribute said: "Rest in peace for Carl Davies. Our thoughts and prayers for Carl to have a safe passing. A good friend; a good man who served Queen and country. He will never be forgotten."
