More than 20 drink drivers have been banned in a Kent Police crackdown but officers say the message is still not getting through.

During the campaign, which ran from December 1, 2009 to January 1 this year, 23 motorists from the mid Kent policing area, which includes Swale, were banned from driving.

There were 58 people arrested in mid Kent during the crackdown and 202 were breath tested.

Three Islanders have been banned from driving after being charged with driving over the alcohol limit.

Terry Connor, 47, of Broadway, Sheerness, was banned for 12 months, fined £100 and ordered to pay £100 costs.

Falconer Dunn, 55, of Queenborough Drive, Minster, was banned for 17 months, fined £650 and ordered to pay £100 costs.

Rodney Horrigan, 40, of Highfield Road, Minster, was banned for 14 months, fined £100 and ordered to pay £100 costs.

Traffic coordinator PC Warren Jarvis said: “The results this year are broadly the same as last year which is disappointing.

“Despite numerous warnings from police, motorists continue to ignore this advice and take the risk of driving while under the influence.

“Acting on the information from this campaign, we will be conducting further operations throughout the course of 2010, to ensure that the message gets through that driving while under the influence of alcohol or dugs will not be tolerated.”
