The Mayor and Mayoress of Swale showed their support for Armed Forces’ Day by raising the flag at the council offices in Sheerness.

Cllr Ben Stokes and Cllr Sylvia Bennett, accompanied by the Mayor’s Cadet, Leading Cadet Oliver Field of Sittingbourne and Milton Regis Sea Cadet Unit, raised the special flag at the offices in Trinity Road at 10.30am this morning (Monday).

The event was organised to coincide with the Armed Forces’ Day – Show Your Support flag raising ceremonies in London.

It follows the success of the first ever British Armed Forces Day in 2009, after which the Ministry of Defence launched a national Fly the Flag campaign for the now annual Armed Forces Day, which this year falls on Saturday.

Mayor of Queenborough, Cllr Carol Stewart, also hoisted a flag on the Guildhall in High Street, Queenborough.
