A DRUNKEN teenager stabbed another woman repeatedly when she was asked to leave a party, a court heard.

The blade went right through Sarah-Jane Jarrett’s wrist but luckily missed major arteries.

Her attacker,Claire Dawson,had gate-crashed the bonfire night party in Sheerness, armed with a knife, Maidstone Crown Court was told.

The 18-year-old denied wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, but was convicted by a jury. She had admitted unlawful wounding.

Dawson, of Eastchurch Road, Sheerness, was remanded in custody for reports and will be sentenced on July 7.

John O’Higgins, prosecuting, said Miss Jarrett had helped organise the party on November 5 last year.

Dawson had been drinking when she arrived uninvited and upset others with her behaviour.

After Mrs Jarrett repeatedly asked her to leave, she felt a "punch", but then saw blood trickling down and realised she had been stabbed several times.

"It turns out that Claire Dawson had gone to the party armed with a knife," said the prosecutor.

The victim was taken to hospital and treated for her wounds. The worst were two cuts to her left wrist.

"In fact, the medical evidence was that the knife had passed all the way through her wrist and one wound is an entry wound and the other is an exit wound," said Mr O’Higgins. "Thankfully, it missed major arteries."

When arrested, Dawson claimed she had retaliated to an attack by Mrs Jarrett. She said she did not know she had a knife in her hand at the time.

Mrs Jarrett said she and her husband Jason had gone to the party at the home of a friend at The Broadway, Sheerness. About 40 people attended.

She said she heard that Dawson was starting trouble.

"I told her it would be better for her to go home and she wouldn’t listen," said Mrs Jarrett. "I told one of her friends to take her home and she refused. She wasn’t invited.

"She said: 'No, I’m not going anywhere'. I told her to leave again and she wouldn’t.

"She lunged at me. I thought she was punching me. I was hit in the wrist, the leg and the back."

Dawson admitted she had drunk a "ridiculous amount" of alcohol, including about half a litre of Bacardi.

But she denied intending to cause Mrs Jarrett serious harm. Asked how she felt about it now, she replied: "Awful."

Dawson said she carried the knife for protection.
