Community chest helps Island causes

This year the Times Guardian joined forces with the Rotary Club of Minster-on-Sea to give away more than £3,000 to Island good causes.

Thirty-two groups and individuals will benefit from the Island Community Chest, and we will be announcing the winners over the coming months.

The money has come from Rotary events held last year and initiatives held as part of the Times Guardian’s 150th anniversary.

Big Fish Arts have been awarded £50 from the Community Chest.

The money will go towards the work the group is doing towards the aviation centenary.

Big Fish are currently doing workshops in Island schools to help teach the children about the history of flight on Sheppey.

Chris Reed, Big Fish spokesman, said: “The grant is very welcome indeed.

“We are very pleased with it, and it was a nice surprise.”

President of the Rotary, Mike Brown, said: “It is a grant towards the work Big Fish is doing with young people and all the projects they are doing in the schools.”
