Six months after the start of a series of 17 arson attacks that brought fear to a small residential area, police say they still have several leads to pursue.

But none of them include the results of forensic testing on a petrol can found near the scene of an attack on a sports car and a fishing boat in Thames Avenue, Sheerness.

Police have revealed this week there is no link between the can and the fires.

The spate of arsons in the Mile Town area of the town started in November last year.

The biggest attack was on the Sheerness Windmill, off High Street, Sheerness, which father and son team Bernie and Caleb Watson were in the process of refurbishing. Damage was estimated at £250,000.
