A man, believed to be carrying a knife, walked into the garage at about 9.45pm on Thursday and demanded cash from the woman cashier.

More than £1,000 was taken and he left the scene at 10.10pm. No one was injured.

Two women workers who were in the garage fled to the safety of nearby pub The Aviator.

Pub manager Phil Chislett said: "As they came in, a couple of people from the pub went outside and over the other side of the road to see what was going on and spotted two or three people running away.

"They came across them as they were coming out of the garage to get into a car.
