A dedicated great-grandmother has been praised for her fundraising efforts.

Elsie Negus, of Stanley Avenue, Queenborough, regularly organises events to support Mencap.

The 92-year-old held three house sales at her home last week, selling items she has sewn and knitted as well as things which have been donated to her.

Mrs Negus worked with children through the charity for 25 years and decided to support them after having a daughter of her own who had learning difficulties.

Over the years she has raised hundreds for Isle of Sheppey Mencap – which is based at the DeLacey Hall in Sheerness.

Caroline Wilson, of Queenborough Rowing Club, said: “She’s amazing making cushion covers, peg bags, aprons and is still able to do clothing alterations. Elsie deserves recognition and support for what she does.

“She’s a lovely lady and is devoted to raising funds for Mencap.”
