Otford: PSCO donates £500 to village hall from police property fund

A Sevenoaks PCSO demonstrated her commitment to village life by donating £500 from the Kent Police property fund.

PCSO Jane Wright is the local point of contact for the people of Otford, and the money will go towards a major refurbishment of the village's Memorial Hall.

The venue, which is situated in the High Street, is the base for many events including parties and wedding receptions and also hosts clubs, meetings, cricket matches and boot fairs.

PCSO Wright said: "The trustees of the hall would like to give it a new lease of life and I applied for funding so they can continue with their good work.

"Without the hall a lot of people would have nowhere to hold clubs, meetings and special events, and this very close-knit village would not be the same without it.

"I love being the local PCSO for Otford. Everyone is so friendly and willing to help if they can, so I thought it would be nice for me to give a little bit back by securing this money from the police property fund."

The property fund is raised from the sale at auction of items seized during operations.

Twice a year the money raised is distributed to local groups like the Otford Village Memorial Hall that provide a service to communities in Kent.

Hall manager and secretary to the trustees, Ron Dullage, said: "We’re looking to spend at least £80,000 on refurbishments so whenever we receive donations such as this one from Kent Police we are always extremely grateful.

"Jane is a brilliant PCSO and we love her to bits. She knows so many people and does an awful lot of good work for the village, and we’re all very fond of her. Long may she be part of Otford’s community."
