Serious crash shuts M25 between junction 3 and 4 anticlockwise

A young woman and elderly man were cut free from their vehicles following a serious crash which caused massive tailbacks on the M25.

Traffic queued for several hours following the accident between junction 3 for the M20 and junction 4 for Orpington.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the multi-vehicle accident just after 6pm.

A woman had managed to get out of her car but fire crews removed the roof of the vehicle to release her daughter, thought to be in her early 20s, from the passenger side.

Hydraulic rescue equipment was also used on a second vehicle to enable an elderly man to be assisted from his car.

A truck had also collided with the central reservation and it is believed a further vehicle had swerved up the bank to avoid the crash.

A police spokesman said: "We were called at 5.55pm to reports of a collision involving three vehicles between junctions 5 and 4 of the M25.

"The incident was in the direction of the Dartford Crossing.

"Police, South East Coast Ambulance and Kent Fire and Rescue all attended the scene and road closures were put in place.

"There are not believe to have been any serious injuries."
