It's Happy Hour again and again at one Kent pub which is encouraging punters to enjoy a pint on the house courtesy of a pop star.

The Beautiful South and Housemartins frontman Paul Heaton is celebrating his 60th birthday by putting money behind the bar at 60 different venues across the UK and Ireland.

The "Caravan of Love" singer had planned a tour of each but had to shelve these plans due to recording delays caused by the pandemic.

Instead, Paul is encouraging punters to "enjoy a birthday drink on me", adding the offer will be available at select venues "until the money runs out or the bar runs dry".

On the list is The Grasshopper on the Green in Westerham, which is said to be one of his brother's favoured drinking holes.

A post on the pub's social media page read: "Happy Birthday Paul Heaton! Thank you for choosing us to help celebrate your special day."

A staff member at the 700-year-old boozer said they had already had a "couple dozen" taking up the offer with more expected later.

Raised in Sheffield, Paul, founded the Hull-based Housemartins in the early eighties. They had hit singles with Happy Hour and Caravan Of Love.

He then went on to form the hugely successful Beautiful South, releasing 15 albums over a decade-long period, most of which went platinum or gold.

Paul now performs in a duo with bandmate Jacqui Abbott.

The frontman is encouraging people to share snaps of them enjoying their pint on social media.

On a Facebook post, he added: "The hope is to bring people together on the day, whilst recognising thart many folk who bought my records or showed me support over the years, could do with a wee party, as we come out of Covid and hit potential financial struggles."
