A school has added to its green credentials by starting up a KM Walking Bus for pupils.

Platt Primary School in Sevenoaks, already proudly flies the Eco Schools' Green Flag and is working towards achieving Healthy Schools status.

The Platt Walking Bus was officially launched on Thursday, July 17, in an event attended by staff, pupils and key sponsors, including those from Russet Homes, members of Platt parish council and KCC travel planners.

The bus has 17 pupils on it, ranging in age from four to 10 years old, who are helping the primary to take great strides in its mission to go green. The bus departs every Wednesday from the Platt Memorial Hall for the 15-minute stroll to the school gates in Maidstone Road.

Co-ordinator Caroline Gower says the youngsters enjoy catching the Walking Bus.

She said: "The children think it's great fun, but we are also running the bus for the health benefits it brings to them, as well as improving safety on our roads."

Platt head teacher Helen Netti is delighted the Walking Bus has started at the school. She said: "It's fantastic to see and we have a great group of parents who are supporting the bus. As more children see the Walking Bus I am sure we will have lots more wanting to join in. It's a nice start to the day for the children taking part and they really enjoy it."
