Firefighters tackle out of control bonfire in Westmarsh near Ash

Firefighters tackled a large, out of control bonfire in Ash last night.

The unattended bonfire in Westmarsh, Ash, was extinguished using a hose reel jet.

One fire engine was on the scene at 5.50pm, and crews spent a further 30 minutes damping the blaze down.

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "We advise it is always best to remain with a bonfire until it has burnt out and if you have to leave it, damp it down thoroughly."

They left the scene at 6.16pm.
