Why us? Kent misses out on roadworks respite

Around two-thirds of the major roadworks on England's main routes are being lifted for the bank holiday weekend - but none of them are in Kent, so don't expect a quick getaway before you leave the county's borders.

The depressing news came from the Highways Agency, who confirmed 38 sites - including all those in our county - would remain in place for safety reasons.

What to watch out for:

Delays are expected on the A2 between Bean and Cobham, near Gravesend, while widening works continue;

A single lane closure on each carriageway on the M20 between junction 10 (Ashford) and junction 13 (Folkestone). Also a speed limit of 50mph;

Bridge maintenance work is taking place at the A21 Morleys Interchange to Vauxhall Lane at Tonbridge;

Speed limit of 50mph on the M25 between junctions 1b and 3, near Dartford, due to widening works.

The Highways Agency is also advising people to plan their journey in advance to avoid the worst of the summer queues.

Derek Turner, Highways Agency network operations director, said: "We are doing everything it can to help drivers with their journeys and we have removed as many roadworks as possible and provide a number of information services that will help drivers."
