It's a no. Votes have been counted after a referendum on Britain's biggest Congestion Charge zone - and the public has rejected the idea.

If the Greater Machester scheme had got the go ahead other cities, such as Canterbury, could have followed suit.

Just under two million people were eligible to have their say on the Greater Manchester Transport Innovation Fund.

The plans involved large investment in public transport and a congestion charge at peak times between Monday and Friday.

Campaigners in favour of the proposals argued the scheme offered the chance to create the premier public transport system in the country - but those against labelled it another tax on the motorist.
