Ducati Monster 821 motorbike

Ducati has unveiled a brand new middleweight naked model that will slot into the range below the well-received Monster 1200.

The Monster 821 is the latest in a long line of extremely successful Monster models and follows a string of predecessors that between them have sold almost 300,000 units.

It uses a liquid-cooled 11-degree V-twin that's good for 110bhp and 66lb.ft of torque. With a dry weight of 179.5kg it's set to be no slouch, and it should be at least as nimble as its forebears.

High-spec brakes, pricy suspension and high-end components merge with what Ducati is calling its “best-yet ergonomics” to create the best middleweight Monster to date.

Boasting adjustable seat height, the model also features eight-stage traction control, three-stage ABS and three-level Ride-by-Wire into Ducati’s user-friendly, press-button Riding Modes.

A black-painted 'Dark' model will be launched at the same time as the standard, red 821. The Dark will feature a black frame and black wheels, while costing £200 less than the red bike at £8,795.

Both can be ordered with restrictor kits to comply with lower levels of Europe-wide multi-stage riding licences, like the UK's.
