Legal firm moves in bid to double its staff levels

A growing law firm is moving to new offices that will allow it to double its workforce.

Vertex Law, founded just over three years ago to specialise in corporate work, has outgrown its headquarters at Kings Hill, West Malling.

When the chance came to switch to a 15,000 sq ft building a few hundred yards away, the firm’s senior staff - or members as they are called - decided to grab the opportunity.

Vertex Law’s 50 staff are moving to the new three-storey premises - built on freehold land formerly owned by the Charities Aid Foundation - over the next few days.

CAF sold the land to a developer who has built the offices. "We were in the market to move so we think we’ve got a good deal, " said founding member Stuart Butler-Gallie. "It’s great for expansion."

It is a lease deal, with Vertex Law investing £300,000 in the fit-out.

The new offices will enable the firm to add an extra 50 jobs over the next year or two. Vertex Law is also sub-letting part of the premises to land agent SmithGore.

Vertex Law handles corporate legal matters for Charlton Athletic Football Club. It also specialises in mergers and acquisitions. It is working on some 40 acquisitions for the ADP Dental Company, and carries out extensive work for Paydens chain of chemists and the Verdant Group, which specialises in waste.

Other clients include Shepway, Ashford, and Tonbridge and Malling councils, the University of Greenwich, Brakes, Royal Bank of Scotland and FujiFilm Sericol. It also provides services to small and medium size businesses.

Mr Butler-Gallie and his senior team aim to use the new HQ as a springboard to new corporate business. "It’s no longer necessary for companies to go to London law firms," he said. "We offer similar quality - if not better - services at lower cost. You don't have to go to the City."
