New oast houses draw the crowds

THE sight of a traditional oast house is common throughout Kentish villages, but so many purchasers are put off buying such a property due to the running costs and any renovation required.

In Chelsfield Village, however, specialist housebuilder Asprey Homes has created two new oast houses at its Home Farm development.

Such has been the demand at the site that Asprey Homes sold one of the two oast houses immediately and now has just two of its nine detached five-bedroom family homes remaining at its flagship development near Bromley.

The homes are arranged within a traditional farmstead setting.

Bruce Walker, chief executive for Asprey Homes, said: "This is the first time the company has built an oast house and because the properties are extremely rare, demand has been instant. Both oast houses are more than 4,000 square feet, almost double the size of an average five bedroom home and have no need for refurbishment. "
