Welly throwing ensures fundraising success

Fundraisers put some welly into their campaign to raise more cash for a charity campaign.

A fun-day was organised as part of the appeal to raise thousands of pounds in memory of Emily Loughrey who died of cancer last year aged 22.

The event, organised by Horsted Youth Football Club, raised more than £1,200 for cancer charity CLIC Sargent. It was held on Saturday at New Brompton College, Gillingham.

A welly-throwing competition was just one of the many money-spinners on the day.

Other activities included a sponsored walk, a smash the crockery stall, face painting, a bouncy castle, a raffle, penalty shoot-outs, cake and craft stalls, and a boot fair.

The event was put together by husband and wife team Paul and Kim Gordon. Paul manages one of the Horsted Youth teams, while Kim is secretary. They were helped by social secretary Julie Lewis.

Everyone pitched in on the day. Scores of youngsters from both Horsted Youth and Wigmore Youth Football Club played some friendly matches, while volunteers from Wigmore manned the barbecue.

Paul said: “It was a brilliant event. There were lots of different things going on throughout the day. The mums and dads football match was really entertaining.”

“We want to thank everyone who got involved on the day, especially the organisations who donated raffle prizes.

“We raised £1,200 on the day and we’ve still got more sponsorship money to come in.”

* The Loughrey family from Chatham has smashed their £20,000 fund-rasing target. The total raised by the appeal has now reached around £35,000 but the family want to keep going to raise as much as they can. To find out more visit www.embo.co.uk
