BBC TV weather girl Kaddy Lee-Preston is taking part in an unusual charity event in aid of Pembury's Hospice in the Weald.

She will be joining more than 30 other people who have volunteered to walk barefoot on burning embers or broken glass. It is the fourth year the hospice has held the sponsored fund-raising event.

The walks are organised by a professional company. Last year more than £13,500 was raised by nearly 60 walkers.

Volunteers are carefully briefed and provided with motivational training before they step out onto the fire or glass. This year's event is being held on Thursday, October 31, at The Land Registry, in Hawkenbury, near Tunbridge Wells.

Hospice fund-raising director Richard Snow stressed that the walks were perfectly safe. He said: "I have walked on fire myself and felt no heat sensation at all."
